Battery Isolator Is A Must For Big Car Stereo Systems

The power required for your car stereo is dependent on the size of the car stereo. When you listen to stereo when the car is switched off then the battery will lose its power and it becomes difficult to start. To avoid this situation we can add a second battery but doing this is not as easy as we say it. For this we need a battery isolator that allows the charging of the battery while the car is running and this also separates the two battery. But how to connect a battery isolator is the real problem. This could be easily solved by doing the steps given below.

First of to do this we require a few tools and that includes a battery, a blue ring terminals, a battery isolator, a self tapping screw, needle nosed pliers, wire crimpers, a 12 volt test light , wire cutter finally a few wire strippers and a terminal crimping tool. These tools help us finish the job in a neat and a lot quicker.

The first step involves opening the hood of the car. Then place the extra battery in the place provided for it. To secure its position a 3/8 ratchet and socket is used.

In the next step with the help of drill the battery isolator is mounted to the fender. For more secure connection use the brackets and self tapping screws that comes along with the battery isolator. A 4 gauge battery cable is used to connect the two batteries. It joins the positive terminal of the battery to the right side of the battery isolator. In the same way we have to connect a wire from the positive terminal of the first battery to the battery isolator. This is done using a 3/8 ratchet and socket.

In the next step a 18 gauge wire's section is run from the battery's ignition terminal to the steering column through a grommet . A 18 gauge wire is connected to the ignition wire with the help of blue scotchlok connector and a needle nosed pliers is used to crimp it tightly.

In the other end of the 18 gauge wire

Changing a Car Battery

It is not very difficult to change a car battery and many can do it by themselves. Lifting the battery is the hard part of the task because it is heavy, although this is not very hard. Many batteries are equipped with a warranty of 60 months. Maintain the track record of the battery's life and replace it before it gives any trouble. Here are simple directions to change a car battery:

Directions
•    First, turn off the engine, open the hood and locate the battery. Remove the battery's negative cable usually black in color. Use a combination wrench to loosen the nut. A battery wrench or battery pliers would be the best suitable tools.
•    Use your hand to twist and pull up on the cable's end. In case it does not easily come off, then a battery terminal puller would be required which can be bought from a local auto shop. This will help in preventing any possible damage to the cable or battery. A screwdriver should not be used as a pry-bar, this is not recommended as it can damage or break the battery terminal.
-    Now remove the battery's positive cable which is red in color, by using the same method.
-    Remove the battery hold-down clamp by using a socket, ratchet or a combination wrench.
-    Take out the battery from the battery tray. Firmly grab them using both hands because batteries are usually heavy. If handles are present on the battery, then use them.
-    For cleaning any corrosion from the battery tray and the hold-down clamp, it is ideal to use baking soda mixed with water and cleaning with a wire brush.
-    Use the wire brush to clean the battery cable connectors. To remove the stiff corrosions from the connectors, battery cleaning solutions should be used, they are available at any auto dealer store.
-    Now the new battery can be placed in the battery tray, secure it with the hold-down clamp. Use the anti-corrosion solution and spray on both the terminal ends. The positive battery cable can now be attached and tightened and then the negative one. Once done, check again if they are all firmly attached. If they can be moved then the car might not start.

Tips and Precautions

-    Make sure that the wires are connected to the right battery terminal or else it can damage the vehicle.
-    Battery acid is tremendously corrosive. Normal Vaseline is suitable and can be used on the battery for preventing corrosion instead of lithium grease.
-    It is recommended that batteries should always be bought from a reputable outlet that offers a guarantee of normally 1 – 2 years. It means that if the battery gives problem with in that time, it can be replaced for free.
•    The old battery should not be dumped in the trash. It should be taken to the facility that recycles hazardous materials. The used batteries can also be returned to the auto stores from where they were bought.
