How much more power/performance will a ECU CDI ECM COMPUTER give my suzuki SV650S bike? I am thinking of buying one but off ebay I saw but I was wondering how much more power this will give my bike I dont really know anything about them I just want more power out of my bike MY BIKE IS COMPLETELY STOCK It will give you some more power on a all stock bike. But it's purpose is to give you the ability to 'tune in' after you add a exhaust, air filter, ext. With a power commander you can map your air fuel mix to get the most power , so you don't run lean or rich. It can make a big difference.

Engine Computer Problems

If you are having engine performance problems such as hard shifting, rough running, poor acceleration, and so on, trouble in the engine computer could be the cause.  The best place to start looking for trouble is at the brain of the the vehicle also known as the ecu.  The first step is to check any wires or connections on the plug that connects to the computer.  Look for signs of deteriorated wire insulation and loose connections.  The connection plugs on most engine computers are very vulnerable to damage caused by flexing and corrosion. If there  appears to be no problems with the wires then your problem may be the ecu itself.  If this appears to be the case then you should have a qualified mechanic  with a good scanner tool run some tests to properly diagnose the engine computer.

If the engine is determined to have a bad engine computer then your options are limited.  The easiest way to fix the problem is to purchase a new ecu from a car dealership: Mitsubishi, Subaru, Toyota etc.... Although, this may set you back $500.00 to $2000.00 dollars.  Your next option is to find an electronics repair company that has the capacity to rebuild a damaged engine computer back to factory specs.   This is the smarter choice and this option will help you save a lot of cash in the process.  Often times a rebuilt unit will also save you the hassle of having to get it reflashed at your local dealer.  A dealership will charge up to $300.00 for programming and some dealers wont reflash ecu's.

It's clear that a rebuilt engine computer is the best option if you're trying to avoid spending ridiculous amounts at a dealership. The most important aspect of this process is to make sure your mechanic is qualified and that he's certain that the problem is the computer. Often times a scanner tool and a trouble code print out will lead you in the right direction. If the repair shop can't properly diagnose it, find an ecm repair company and send in the ecu for testing.
