Do you have info about '67-'77 OMC stern drives?
I am trying to rebuild one on a limited budget. I have and will have a number of questions, and I am desperate. To start off with: can I use standard 80-90 hypoid gear oil to fill the upper and lower stern drive components? If not, is there anything readily available that I can use? A specific weight or rating that I might find?
Both Gaston and Richard C have shown interest in my problem. But, one of you says that I am in big trouble if I use the wrong oil. It is an electric shift unit, but there is nothing that I would call a knuckle. I am still at a loss here. please, more help.
After giving it some thought, Why not. We used an APG 80 years ago. So you can't go too far wrong. Good Luck1 EDIT.....A 1967 Electric Shift? ARE you sure? If so you need to go with a much lighter oil than the APG 80 gear oil. I'd try a 20W. Hydraulic oil. Contact http://www.citgo.com/Products/LubesOils/CITGOBrand/CITGOBrandHydraulicFluids.jsp which is the co. that supplied OMC 'Electric Shift oil. Sorry for the confusion on my part.
