What type of oil should i use in my 91 k5 blazer with a 454 big block motor? I just bought a 91 k5 blazer and the previous owner used 20w-50 but i think that's WAY too thick what do u guys think? it has a 454 big block motor in it with 10k miles rebuilt..should i use synthetic or just regular? previous owner said he used 20w-50 yr round...and he says it takes about 6quarts is that about right? If that's what your rig is running now, you have a heavy duty oil in a workhorse of a chevy, passes everything but the gas station.now im sure but I like that block. I have been running 20 50 for years in Chevy's unless you live in a cold climate where the oil gets real thick in winter ( like below zero) changing viscosity may actually use more oil. Its your rig, whats not broke don't fix. foreign sports cars with tight bearing clearances is one thing, thundering big blocks are different. but to each his own. AS far as synthetic oil, the theory is smaller molecules coat parts better, better resistance to heat. I have tried both and it seems like the synthetic is much more expensive, and I was never able to tell any noticeable performance difference. The biggest key is a good oil, and keep fresh clean oil in the motor. that 454 should be a lot of fun four wheelin though find a steep hill and let your friends eat the dirt clods and dust have fun

The "secrets" of choosing the best retractable motorized awnings.

What are the differences, the advantages and the disadvantages between retractable and fix awnings.

Well we will start with issues everybody must know before they choose what to buy. Remember that you will see your decision every day for the next 5 five years or so ,at least.

Fixed awnings means what the word implies. There are always in the same position and they are not aesthetically pleasing to the eye with vertical or angled posts blocking your view.

Retractable awnings are fully against the house or building. You may see only the valance from the front. They are very discrete and elegant.

With fix awnings , the room will be very dark on a cloudy or rainy day.
On the other hand retractable awnings, allows the property owner to have maximum light exposure when desired or shade based on weather conditions.

If the winds are high( with all these sadden climatic changes the fabric will tear or be ripped from the frame. It is not practical to remove the fabric before every heavy storm or high winds.

In the event of bad weather retractable awnings can be retracted so as not to be damaged by high winds. The best solution will be to have retractable motors with wind sensors, rain sensors, timers and remote control. modern homes are build with all these features and in many cases a pc is controlling all these functions among others, in order to have piece of mind.

Most fixed, permanent or stationary awnings are installed with vinyl or canvas not solution dyed acrylic. Both vinyl & canvas will mildew, rot and/or fade within 2-3 years. The cover life in the fixed ones is much shorter since canvas (which is cotton and not acrylic) or vinyl is always exposed to the harsh elements including the sun and ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Solution dyed fabrics have a 5 year warranty against fading, mildew & rotting, but are known to last in the 12-15 year range on our retractable awnings as they are rolled up when not in use.

Most fixed awnings have vertical posts or braces, which is not pleasing to the eye, while retractable awnings have no vertical legs or posts, therefore, one's view is not impaired and children and pets cannot run into the poles.

Fixed awnings are made of steel which will rust and corrode from the elements usually within 2-3 years. On the contrary most of retractable awnings use frames that are electrostatically powder coated non-rusting aluminum which has a 25 year warranty against any defects including rusting.

Well i hope that i have present you , most of the "secrets" you must have in mind , when you will decide to change or to install your new awnings. The choice is yours. My opinion is retractable motorized awnings.
