Big Sporting Events In March
Many people may consider March to be a slow month in the world of sports with the Winter Olympics having just been complete and the Super Bowl having been played. Im here to tell you this is just not the case. March will be an exciting month with the NCAA March Madness tournament getting underway and the UEFA Champions League tournament playing out the final round of 16 matches.
The March Madness tournament will be the biggest sporting event of the month for people in North America. Each year March is designated as the month when sports fans turn their attention to the top young basketball players in the world. The tournament selection takes place on March 14th and the tournament gets started two days later with first round play on the 16th. The champion is then crowned after the National Championship game on April 5th.
March Madness is always very exciting thanks to the single elimination format and the many close games and unpredictable upsets. Almost every sports fan in North America will be filling out at least one March Madness bracket and many will be betting on the various games to spice up their viewing pleasure. The tournament is sure to not disappoint with the sports world watching with keen interest.
The UEFA Champions League tournament will also be having some big games this month as teams continue to be eliminated. The first round of 16 game has already been played and the final second one will be completed on March 17th. The first quarterfinal games will then be played on the 30th and 31st of March to cap off the month.
The UEFA Champions League tournament is the biggest club soccer tournament in the World. The team that wins the tournament wins the title of the best club soccer team in the entire world. The top teams from every league in Europe compete for the top prize and the football is nearly flawless. Which club and which league will bring home the trophy this season? The Premier League is definitely the favourites, but Real Madrid may win it for the Spanish Liga, or Bayern Munich could take home the title for the Bundesliga.
On top of these two huge sporting events for different demographics the NBA and NHL seasons are entering their final phase and the push for the playoffs is underway. With only about 20 games left for teams in both leagues each game becomes increasingly important for teams on the playoff bubble. The excitement will really come alive in March, especially in the NHL which has a ton of games in a short time span thanks to the condensed schedule due to the NHLs participation in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
As you can see March is another big month for sports. The Olympics may be over, but when one door closes another one opens and that is also the case in the sports world. There is always something to get excited about in the world of sports and March is no different!
