groung getting hot on my boat trailer? i just put a new wiring harness on my trailer and i have turn signals and brake lights but no running lights and my ground is getting very hot and melting the plastic coating. any suggestions???????? Check your wiring. Your running lights are probably shorted to ground somewhere and that's what's causing the heating in the ground wire. DIsconnect the running lights wire at the vehicle connection and see if the ground connection cools down. Check all the running light housings. One of them is probably bad.
